As and endodontic patient, what should you expect?

An endodontist will examine your mouth in an attempt to accurately diagnose the source of your dental pain or infection.  If it is determined that endodontic therapy could treat your particular condition, you can expect a thorough discussion about the various state-of-the-art treatment options our clinic can provide to treat your specific needs and a discussion about reasonable alternatives.  While non-surgical endodontic treatment is most common, under certain circumstances, endodontic surgery may be indicated as the preferred treatment method.  As endodontic specialists, we are experts in providing you with outstanding results with either option.

What is an Endodontist

Endodontists are dentists who specialize in maintaining teeth through endodontic or root canal therapy which are procedures involving the soft inner tissue of the teeth, called the pulp. All dentists are trained in diagnosing and performing root canal treatments, however, some teeth can be especially difficult to diagnose and treat. That’s why you may have been referred to an Endodontic specialist.

In addition to dental school, endodontists receive two or more years of advanced education in this kind of treatment. They study root canal techniques and procedures in greater depth, for diagnosis and treatment of more difficult cases, and learn to use technology like the dental operating microscope used in our office. This training allows endodontists to treat the highly variable and complex anatomy of your particular tooth with incredible precision and affords the greatest chance for clinical success in more difficult cases.
